As the weather cooled down, I noticing my turmeric leaves yellowing. It was probably time to harvest them. Last year we had planted them in grow bags. Even with rich soil and consistent feeding we didn’t get much of a harvest. This past spring my husband planted them in one of our raised beds -all of them! The orange, yellow, blue, white and black turmerics all in one bed! He was supposed to have separated them but instead planted all of them together. I can’t image all the cross pollination that occurred between all the varieties of turmeric.
As we started digging out the turmeric, we discovered humongous yellow turmeric roots.

When we finally finished nearly half of the bed, we begin finding other colored turmeric -small amounts of blue, but unfortunately instead of finding black and yellow turmeric, we found green and purple! It seems like the black turmeric crossed-pollenated with yellow to create purple, and the yellow cross-pollinated with the blue to create the green.
